On December 6, 2017, US President Donald Trump formally announced the United States recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel,reversing nearly seven decades of American foreign policy, and ordered the planning of the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.Following the announcement Trump signed a further embassy waiver under the Jerusalem Embassy Act, delaying the move, mandated by the Act, by at least six months. Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, welcomed the decision and praised the announcement.
